Houston Texans: Are they ready to be taken serious?
So many times I have heard people talk of the Houston Texans and how they start well and finish poorly. This year the question was presented to me if I thought that they would have a good year this year. I have to answer that by stating it this way. They will have a good year to their standards. You might think that stating that is a cop out. But it is not. They finished 8-8 last year and is better than 15 other teams, which is almost half of the teams. It was good enough to tie 3 other NFL teams. It was 8th best in the AFC, yet it was still last in their division. With that being said, I think that they
play in the toughest AFC division of all, the AFC South. Only 12 teams put the ball into the endzone more than they did. And 1 team tied them for that. As for scoring, they posted a -5 point spread which fetched them the 17th place spot in net points. Here is the kicker, they dominated at home posting a 6-2 record and crashed on the road with the a 2-6 record. Fix the road woes and maybe you content.
When you look at the Texans overall, they have a sound team. And now, it is a little more sound with the addition of Mike Bell that allowed for them to release safety Brandon Mitchell to open up a roster sport. Bell was released by the Denver Broncos only a few days ago. He now joins an already stud filled backfield with off season acquistion Chris Brown, and the likes of returning RBs Ahman Green, Daruis Walker, and Chris Taylor. Looks like the running game for these boys just picked it up a few notches. Matt Schaub looks to be back in the drivers seat with a now seasoned Sage Rosenfels sitting in the wings ready to go if needed. It looks like Matt has found him a favorite receiver in Kevin Walter being that most defenses with double Andre Johnson. I will also be interested in how Tim Carter will fit into this scheme. More than like Owen Daniels will see most of the playing time at tight end.
The defense will be led by Pro Bowler DeMeco Ryans who led the team last year with 127 tackles. Defensive End Mario Williams and Defensive Tackle Amobi Okoye will also provide some thunder up front for the defensive line. I think right now the biggest question to answer for this team is going to be the secondary. But, that is what camp is for. I am sure that they will find the other pieces to the puzzle.
With that all being said, my projection for the Texans is a stellar 10-6 season. Even with that record though, they will not be going to the playoffs. Sorry guys.

They are a solid team but I think you are on the money with you assessment. Wonder if Favre might end up here???
Rich, I really do not think Favre will end up there. I think the Texans are happy with what they have.
