Published by poopy head at 9:04 pm under Baseball, Professional Baseball, Sports Edit This

I was looking through some old stats today on the original season of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. I thought that we might take a side by side look at the 1998 team and the 2008 team. Just so you know, this franchise has been in existence for 11 years. This is the point that they have always been striving to get to; the playoffs

  • The first and foremost thing that I would like to mention is that the Devil Rays record in 1998 was 63-99.The record of 2008 for the Tampa Bay Rays was 97-65. This was almost a complete flip flop. Only 2 games difference.
  • The first game of 1998 was a loss by the Rays. The first game of 2008 was a win by the Rays.
  • The second game of 1998 was a win, the first in Franchise history. The second game of the 2008 season was a loss.
  • The 1998 season saw the Rays with a losing record in extra inning games by a 5-10 margin. In 2008, they had a winning record with a 10-6 margin.
  • The 1998 team’s June record was 10-17. The 2008 record for June was 16-10
  • In 1998, the Rays were 5-11 in inter league play. In 2008, they were 12-6
  • In 1998 the Rays longest game was 14 innings. In 2008 the Rays longest game was 14 innings.
  • The team batting average in 1998 was .261 and the batting average in 2008 was .260
  • The 1998 team finished dead last. The 2008 team finished first and won the American League East Championship.
