Last night, the Memphis Tigers played host to the Louisville Cardinals. The crowd of 40,248 screaming fans that packed into Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium was treated to a slug fest. This was a game of “can you top that” as both teams 2378096.jpgbasically trade scores through the first three quarters. The 4th quarter was the difference maker for the Cardinals.

The crowd watched as the Tigers were the first team to break into the endzone with 5:42 left on the clock. Red shirt Junior quarterback Arkelon Hall would keep it himself and take it in from 1 yard out. The Cardinals would tie it up with 11:22 left to go in the second quarter. Trent Guy took a 43 yard pass from Hunter Cantwell for the tie. Memphis would answer again as Hall would catch a 1 yard pass from his wide receiver Maurice Jones. It would take the Cardinals just 14 seconds to answer as Guy would gallop 95 yards on the ensuing kick off. The crowd was stunned to say the least. Prior to the end of the second half, Louisville would strike two more times. The first would be on a 23 yard pass from Cantwell to Pete Nochta. The final score of the half would come with no time on the board as Johnny Patrick would block a 47 yard attempt by Vinny Zaccario. The ball would be picked up by Brandon Heath who would burn a 60 yard path to the endzone for the 4th touchdown for the Cardinals.

The 3rd quarter would belong to the Memphis Tigers as the crowd would watch their stud  Hall connect on 2 different touchdown passes. The first would be 2:01 into the third quarter to Earnest Williams for a 7 yard touchdown pass. The second would come with just 1:51 seconds left in the quarter. Hall would connect with Carlos Singleton for a 10 yard pass.

With the game all knotted up at 28 to 28. Hall would get popped by Rodney Gnat and Johnny Patrick would swoop in to pick up the ball and run for 21 yards to score the difference maker. There was 12 minutes of back and forth ball movement that did not amount to anything other than frustration. This hit changed the outcome of the game.
